Lets Get Sirius!
79SiriusXM Satellite Radio
Sirius and XM merged and are now one and the same Satellite Radio. Sirius features commercial free music where ever you go, brought straight to you via satellite signal. Pure, clean radio and then - Howard Stern!
Howard Stern, radio shock jock, has been on the air since before 1986. He had the most popular syndicated radio show from 1986 - 2005. Stern followed in his father's footsteps and says he knew he wanted to be in radio since he was 5 years old.
Stern's presence is very well known on and off the air. Recently, he appeared as a guest on the David Letterman show, he joked about getting fired for airing a skit that back fired. Stern has admitted to being fined at least a couple of times through out his career.
I love the Howard Stern show, I like the joking around and the outrageous humor with Stern and his crew, Robin (my favorite) Fred, Benjy and Gary. Robins laughter just makes me laugh!
My husband drives a lot through the day, from court house to court house research room so I knew I was onto a great idea when I bought him a Sirius Radio. Sirius should be the first prescripted radio station! I know if the doctor knew how much it calms my husband down when he drives - he would prescribe it.
I bought the radio and I wrapped it up. It has to be installed and I know better than to go touching my husbands truck! I don't know if all men are having love affairs with their trucks but my husband does, and I just keep my hands off the other lady in his life.
The day of his birthday, February 7, arrived and he opened his gift and was quite surprised I had thought of it. Dave had heard about this Satellite Radio and was already interested in picking one up for himself. He followed the easy intall instructions and he opened his account online. The subscription is 12.00 per month. To us, that is a small price to pay for lots of entertainment. Dave can listen to the radio while he drives or listen while he works, utilizing his account online through his computer.
Satellite has over 140 stations, such as, Martha Stewart, Howard Stern at Howard100, E Street Band with Bruce Springstein, NFL Radio, News and Traffic, Comedy, Oprah, Tom Petty, you name it. It looks to me like everyone is joining the satellite wave.
I also noted that new cars are being rolled out with Sirius already installed. This tells me that it will be the radio of the future. When my birthday rolled around two years ago and my husband asked me what I wanted for my gift, being a practical girl I said, "let's get Sirius!" He said, "I am! Now, what do you want for your gift?" I said, "No! I mean lets get S-I-R-I-U-S"!
SIRI
Sirius was trading on the NASDAQ for .67 cents per share. I don't believe in gambling away money I do not have, but I do not mind the entertainment value and I do play around enough to earn a buck or two.
When the stock market bottomed out - I went around purchasing stocks that I personally liked. I am not a stock broker - but I did work for one for a couple of years. I learned that the stock market is totally unpredictable. It is really all smoke and mirrors. Sure, people can give you all their estimates and educated guesses but, only the shadow knows! Trading Stock is not for the faint of heart. (Just ask Martha Stewart!)
The Gift That Keeps on Giving
Here we are, a few birthdays and valentines day's later and I am still holding that stock close to my heart. The market closed today and it was trading for $2.14 cents per share. That 1000 shares is now more than double it's worth than when I purchased it which makes my unrealized gain more than 100 percent.
Thanks for the Birthday Day Gift David...and Happy Birthday! I know you are still enjoying your SIRIUS radio - seriously!
Get SIRIUS - I am betting it is going to be a big winner too!

Okay now I feel left out since I wont be able to listen to Sirius! Congrats on your stocks making you some money!
Sirius is kewl. So is Howard Stern. Thanks for a great story.
Aaw Dave hahah I love Howard Stern and I love Sirius radio - I really do. My husband has it in his car (courtesy of the company he works for) and my mom has it in her car. I dont have it :( But I really really want it! My anniversary is coming up...I wonder if I print out your Hub and leave it laying ALL over the house...maybe he will get the hint!
Hey RealHousewife, I don't presently own a car and if I did, I would prefer commercial free radio to what is already on air with normal radios. It's awesome that you bought stock in them when you had the opportunity and I think it's awesome that your return on investment has been really great. I've seen some videos of Howard Stern's radio show and he is definitely a personality to be reckoned with without a doubt. LOL! :) Great Hub! Voted up, awesome, beautiful and interesting. :)
Siriusly, that was a very nice Valentine you gave your hubby. Now I am seriously curious, what did he give you? Inquiring minds want to know. :)
OK, so serious is the best and we all know this. However, what a great hub depicting this fact! Voted up and interesting, hope you enjoy my hubs as well!
When I bought my car 3 years ago it came with a month of free satellite radio. I did like the stations available, but that truly annoying feature of losing the satellite feed while stuck under an overpass irritated me so bad that I did not continue the subscription. Not being able to hear the punch lines or the end of a song was really irritating. So I dropped it.
I hope Dave doesn't have to drive under overpasses all the time like I do.
Dear RealHousewife, I saw that Dave Letterman session with Howard Stern, too. I don't think anyone knows the real Howard, as I think he's smart "like a fox" and his verbiage is concocted to make him wealthy. Whether people love him or hate him, everyone knows of him. Agree or disagree, his controversial persona is always talked about.
Congrats, Real, on your stock market success, at a time where many long-time investors are floundering. I knew you were one smart foxy lady!
Great, Kelly did not know about this radio station until now. Thanks for sharing the information.
I liked how you described David's second love...his truck..lol
my better half's love is his computer and I dare not mess with her...lol
I am proud how you have gained by investing in this stock...way to go WOMAN! Proud of ya!
We are big Howard fans in this house and own Private Parts. Stern is definitely one smart cookie, and so are you for buying those stocks. Al used to have Sirius in his truck, but when the economy started to get bad we didn't renew the subscription. It is on the list though to pick up again when things start to pick up again. I can't recall how much the subscription was here but I know for sure it was higher than what you guys pay. Sometimes it sucks to be a Canadian :)
Great hub! I have always had Sirius long before the merger and in fact have been a faithful listener to Howard Stern and Bubba the Love Sponge. I used to work for a drving company that started at 3am until 3pm Mon-Sat and if it wasn't for my Sirius radio, it would have been a long boring drive everyday with just terestrial radio as Howard likes to say. thanks
Hey RH, it came with my Accord and I've gladly paid the yearly fee--you save a lot that way. I wish it would have a big display showing all the channels and featured programs so I could keep hitting the remote while I'm driving like I do at home. On second thought, maybe I'll just stick to the audiobooks, music, Car Talk etc I listen to now.
I also wish they would offer Pandora as a channel, but I may have to plug in my Droid for that.
You may have a knack for this stock thing, time to write a hub on the RH Orman guide to savvy investing. =:)
p.s. Happy Birthday Dave!
This is the way his truck acts now with his new gift:
We have it, Kelly!....have had it since it was just Sirius. Can't live without it...in every car and even in office. I'm not much for Howard Stern but there is something for everyone. I certainly would recommend it! Good Hub! WB
Once upon a time there was Sirius, and once upon a time, there was XM. I liked Sirius better, then they merged. Oh well. I don't really listen to the radio all that much, anyway. Our PT came with it already subscribed, and somehow, it still works 5 years later, yet we've never signed up for any renewals. ... Apparently, since it's an over-the-air broadcast signal, the scrambler is inside the radio, and once it's been unlocked, there is no way to re-lock it remotely, unlike the cable feeding your TV, which can be locked off at the utility pole....just my guess.
What a fortunate hubby you have there Kelly, I could only be so lucky with the gifts lol. Interesting on Siris. Do you think Stern will every make another movie or maybe he has?
Your title hooked me in though I had no idea what Sirius was, since we don’t get it in the UK (as far as I know). It sounds great though and your hub certainly was since I carried on reading even after I knew it was a radio station I can’t listen to!
This seems like a good station to listen to. I had never heard of it until this moment.
I never really was interested in Sirius. My mom and dad had a free version for 1 month in their new car and the songs were good and it was nice to pick exactly what you wanted without the commercials, but idk... something about it just never caught my attention. I liked reading how you felt about it though! Maybe someday I will be able to afford it and then I will pay closer attention. Great hub!

I finally got to hear Sirius and I can see why people enjoy it. Especially since there are no commercials whatsoever and the music stations play more than just the standard issue big hits. Interesting and useful information!
